A team of five field workers conducted the pilot study in Mayaro Rio Claro. In this investigation 13 persons in each of the following age ranges 60-69, 70-79, 80-89 and 90 and above were interviewed using the 10/66 instrument and the socio-economic questionnaire. According to the field workers this was a big success. The participants in the Mayaro Rio Claro area were very cooperative and expressed an interest in this investigation. This pilot study allowed the validation of the instruments to be used for the nationwide study which is earmarked to begin in 2014 and will include 2000 persons.
